Mimulus ringens
Monkey Flower
Rhizomatous, upright perennial which typically occurs in swampy areas, wet meadows and along stream or pond edges. Erect, square, sometimes branching stems have light purple, snapdragon-like flowers (to 1" long) and lance-shaped, serrated leaves. Flowers appear in pairs in the leaf axils on slender 1-2" long pedicels. The common name comes from the flower's resemblance to the face of a smiling monkey. Flowers bloom from June throughout the summer.
