Best grown in rich, moist, well-drained soils in full sun. Will tolerate a range of conditions including high wind, high summer heat, and drought conditions. Easily recognized for the large spines on the trunk, popular for shade hedges and attracting wildlife.

Home Owner Growing and Maintenance Tips:
Not suitable for domestic locations but livestock and wildlife will consume the pulp of the pods that form and change from red-green to maroon. There is also a yellow fall color.
