Silene virginica

Fire Pink

Silene virginica (Fire Pink)

Fire Pink is native to mossy rock outcrops in woodlands and does not do well with competition. It looks similar to Royal Catchfly (Silene regia) but blooms earlier in the season. In April and May, its deep red flowers attract hummingbirds. A mass of these flowers is stunning.
