Prairie & Wetland Center
Critical Site Products promotes excellence in environmental stewardship and sells quality products and local-source native plants for the improvement of conservation initiatives. Our products are utilized in Best Management Practices (BMPs) associated with the development of land for conservation, recreation, residential, commercial, industrial and transportation projects. These BMPs are important in protecting our environment, increasing wildlife habitat and improving water quality.
At the Prairie and Wetland Center (PWC) in Belton, you'll enjoy walking through a variety of demonstration plantings which demonstrate BMPs including rain gardens, bioremediation swales, butterfly and hummingbird gardens, habitat retaining walls and porous pavements. Our native plant nursery is the largest of its kind in the Midwest. We propagate over 500 species of wildflowers, grasses, shrubs and trees and bring over two million to market annually. We're easy to find at the intersection of Highways 71 and 'Y'—just look for the windmill! This structure and the old, covered wagon that brought settlers to the area in the 1880s are reminders of the long-gone era of sweeping prairies and pristine wetlands as well as your landmarks to find everything you need to bring a touch of that time to any landscape.
